The Britannia Hotel dates back to 1858, when the building was opened as the world’s original cash and carry store. It went on to become the cotton industry’s most famous warehouse.
Lift access is available to the ground floor and all rooms, with accessible rooms and bathrooms available. Restaurants and bars are accessible via stairs. Please note that Crompton’s French Restaurant is not accessible for guests with mobility problems.
By Car:
From the South:
- Exit the M6 at junction 19 (Knutsford).
- At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit, the A556 (for Manchester).
- Go past Mere Platt Farm and turn right at the 1st roundabout (M56).
- Follow signs for Manchester and go under Hulme Archway to the roundabout.
- Take the 2nd left into Medlock Street.
- Turn right at the 2nd set of traffic lights at Manchester Central (formerly G-MEX).
- Go through the traffic lights at McDonald's into Portland Street.
- The hotel is on the right, just after Yates's Wine Lodge.
From the East:
- Exit the M62 at junction 18 and turn left for Manchester.
- Follow the slip road onto the M60 and continue for 1.6 km (one mile) until it ends.
- At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit for the A570 to Manchester.
- After 3.2 km (2 miles), turn left at the Halfway House pub.
- After 3.2 km (2 miles), bear left and follow Piccadilly.
From the West:
- Exit the M62 at junction 12.
- Follow the M602 and get in the A57 lane for Manchester.
- Follow until Harry Ramsden's fish and chip shop is on the right.
- At the traffic lights, turn left into Water Street.
- Turn right into Quay Street.
- Carry on over tram lines and pass the Odeon Cinema on the left.
- Turn left at the next set of traffic lights into Portland Street.
- The hotel is on the right, just after Yates's Wine Lodge.
